Columbia Bus System
The Comet is the most affordable, convenient, and widespread form of public transportation in Columbia. The Comet offers a Universal Pass (U-Pass), which can be purchased each semester for $80 (as the semester continues, this amount is discounted). The U-Pass provides unlimited rides to many places throughout Columbia. You can also purchase other types of bus passes if you're looking for something more temporary. Visit http://catchthecomet.org/ to find more information.
You can buy a pass with the Catch the Comet app, on the bus itself, or by visiting 3613 Lucius Road. We have maps and a guide for getting to different shopping locations and attractions at the front desk of the ISS Office.
Taxis are not as common in Columbia as they are in larger metropolitan areas. Rather than waiting for a taxi to drive by, it is better to call and request one. Two better known companies are Blue Ribbon, 803-754-8163 and Checker Yellow, 803-799-3311.
*Be prepared to tell the operator the initial location, how many riders will be in the cab, and your final destination.
